They range from modern-day science fiction to reality-based fiction. Her 1995 debut novel called, Running out of Time, is a popular book about a historical village kept inside a building in the modern world, and tourists come to watch them in via hidden cameras. Then, a disease breaks out and the owner of the village refuses to give them the medicine the village needs. So, a young girl named Jessie escapes into the modern world trying to find a way to save her friends and family...This book is just one of the many books Haddix has written. She is the author of Just Ella (the book this site is about), Turnabout, Don't You Dare Read This, Mrs. Dunphrey, Among the Imposters, Leaving Fishers, Among the Hidden, The Girl with 500 Middle Names, and Takeoffs and Landings.

Margaret Peterson Haddix was born on April 9, 1964, and she grew up on a farm in Washington Courthouse, Ohio. She became a journalist and wrote for Urbana Daily Citizen, the Charlotte Observer, and the Indianopolis News. Haddix got her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.

She married Doug Haddix in 1987. He was a newspaper editor. In 1991, she moved to Illinois, and she did various part-time jobs, like teaching English at a community college. During that time, she began her first novel; Running Out of Time. Her story was inspired by a newspaper article about a living history museum. The story became a success, and she won many awards including the ALA Best Books for Young Adults award.

She wrote many other stories afterward like Don't You Dare Read Read This, Mrs. Dunphrey which is about an abused teenager. This story was inspired by a newspaper article about neglected and abused children. Haddix recieved tons of awards throughout her writing career, like International Reading Association Children's Book Award.

Margaret Peterson Haddix lives with her husband and their two children in the suburbs of Colombus, Ohio.
